What Does the Preamble of the U.S. Constitution Mean?

In this lesson for grades 9-12, students examine and analyze the preambles of state constitutions and identify their underlying values. They compare the state preambles to the preamble to the U.S. Constitution. Finally, they draft a new preamble for the U.S. Constitution, identifying rationales for the ideas, rights, and values it espouses.
